Marketing is all about motivation. You want to create desire in a customer for something you have – either a product or a service. Often, the customer came to you wanting some version of your product. In that case, your job is to sell him your product by convincing him it’s the right product for him. Sometimes, the customer simply stumbles onto your product, not having any desire for it in the first place. In that case, your job would be to convince him that he needs or wants your product right now.

Marketing is about competence. You need to reach your target audience in order to stimulate need or want and you need to do that competently. There is a tried and true process for achieving this level of competence in Internet marketing. It’s a matter of following five steps:

  1. Identify your market and find your niche.
  2. Develop a high quality product or service to sell to that market.
  3. Direct high volumes of traffic to your squeeze page.
  4. Design your website to effectively win your customers
  5. Follow up with your customers to build a relationship.

If you execute these five steps well, you’ll find success in Internet marketing.

Marketing is also about innovation. If everyone follows the five steps, is each person going to find the same degree of success? Not at all. Marketing is dynamic. It’s about change and reinvention. It’s about taking something and looking at it a totally different way. Sometimes marketing gets you to reexamine the produce or service you’re offering. Often, the innovation comes in how you reach your customers.

Innovative Internet marketing strategies should be designed to help you reach more people. The beauty of Internet marketing is that you can reach large amounts of people for relatively small amounts of money. When creating new techniques, keep in mind that you want to increase the number of people you inform of your product or service. How can you redesign your website to make it more appealing or easier to use? Can you incorporate multimedia to help capture the customer’s attention? Explore pay for placement options that can help drive website traffic. Reexamine your online advertising techniques and refocus on what is working. Rework your SEO participation. Retool your opt-in list on a regular basis.

Innovation can also come into play in how you solidify your customer base. How do you cement these customers as yours and create loyalty? How can you reach your customers in a way that no one else can? Have you fully flushed out your product or service identify and is that identity conveyed clearly to the customer? Have you created a reason for your customers to come back to your website?

Once the foundation of your Internet business is set, innovation in your marketing techniques can drive sales and push your business over the top. It is a reality in our world today that everything is always changing. Your Internet marketing should be changing too.
