Getting Started is Hard to Do!
The money is in the list. Do you ever get tired of hearing the money is in the list! It’s enough to drive me crazy. I got it, but how do you develop the list? If you’re frustrated with building a list, then listen carefully to what I about to tell you. There are no short cuts to building a list.
Your List is NOT a Meal Ticket!
One of the biggest reasons so many people are having trouble building a list is because they look at a list as if it were a meal ticket. It’s time to start seeing your list as people with dreams and hopes. What do they want? What are they looking for? Most just want the truth!
Develop Products That Actually Help People
I remember Frank Kern telling us his story of his early years as an Internet Marketer, and how he was actually afraid of his list. Imagine that, big time Marketer, Frank Kern was scared of the people he was selling too. Frank went on to tell us he was afraid that someone would call him up and complain about the junk he was selling. It was as if he was willing it to happen, weird. Actually someone did call him out on the stuff he was selling. And he had to be honest with himself. So Frank decided to change and started building a relationship with his list by developing products that actually helped people. Imagine that. And as they say, the rest is history.
I don’t like listening to slick sales letters promising riches. It’s business, not fairy tales. And the hardest thing about business is getting it going. But, once you get the ball rolling it can become one fantastic ride.
My Big Dream
I know this because, it happen to me. My big dream was becoming a famous photographer. I could actually taste the success. But my dream was so unrealistic, everyone thought I was crazy. You see, at the time I was living in a small Indiana town. Not exactly the fashion capital of the world. I was going to be the next Richard Avedon. So I quit my job as a camera store manager and open my new photography studio in our bedroom. To top it off I had no clients either.
During my first year in business, if you can call it that, I didn’t make a dime, not one red cent. My wife was starting to wonder. I was starting to wonder. But I didn’t give up. I still worked at my craft everyday. Finally, I got one person to believe in me. That started the ball rolling. I never achieved the success of Richard Avedon. But I had an exciting career. I got to work with celebrities like Heidi Klum, Al Unser Jr., Kathy Ireland and Martha Stewart. I open one of the first working digital photography studios in the United States and later sold my business to one of the largest communication companies on Wall Street.
My Second Career!
Now, I am starting a new career, Internet Marketing. It gives me the opportunity to meet new people, to be apart of something new and exciting.
Let me ask a question! Do you wish you could work from home? Are you looking for a way to get started? If the answer is yes, then allow me to steer you in the right direction.
To be successful you need someone to believe in you. You need a community to support you. And most of all you need a mentor. My friend Alex Jeffreys is offering a hour of free training that explains what type of businesses that are working in today’s rapidly changing economy. http://www.bootcampselling.com/

Steven this particular post really hit home with me, especially your thoughts on building relationships with your list. So many times I hear these words from people marketing on the internet but far too often they are not “walking the talk” – my many opportunistic purchases (called wasting money)have given me some bad experiences in “customer relationships” – 3 marketers actually refused to return my enquiries for help, even though they all had so-called help desks established. All I wanted was some simple support!
Like you I am very new to internet marketing but obviously looking over your excellent blog, you have already created a productive and interactive niche for yourself. Just like you I am also part of Alex Jeffrey’s new coaching group MWA 3.0 and I joined for the simple reason that for the first time in a long while, I actually believed in him!
However, I have a lot of catching up to do to get anywhere near guys like you – would like to keep in touch so we can share experiences, if you agree. I have only just established my first blog and I still am not sure how to drive it properly. See absolutely bloody new boy!
P.S. I enjoyed your “no asshole rule” – right on target mate.

Great pictures Steven. I guess it’s the photographer in you. Where did you find them? They really brighten up your blog.

Hey Sandy,
You asked about the pictures. I use Big Stock Photo – Here is the link http://www.bigstockphoto.com/
You buy credits. Here is a example, buy 25 credits for $50. Because you using them on the web you only need one credit per image.
If you need high resolution images for printing, then you use 2 or 3 credits per image. More important, it keeps you from any copyright infringement. This becomes more important, as you become more successful. Which of course you will.
This service is the best on the web. All the gurus use it.
